Fluid Motion Physical  Therapy, PLLC

We specialize in treating you, not your diagnosis

Whether you are the professional artistic athlete, the person who dances to fill their soul or someone who lives to move

FMPT

We are an out of network physical therapy practice which means I work for you without worrying what your insurance company dictates. Some of the more mainstream physical therapy clinics utilize a model of multiple visits a week to increase revenue all while you share their time with other patients. I will work with you on your timeline to help you meet your goals. In addition to Physical Therapy and rehabilitation, we can work on your fitness goals and overall wellness.

A little about me

I am Jemimah (pronounced Ja-me-ah, yes with a silent 'M') , a Long Island-based Physical Therapist that specializes in treating the moving athlete; better known as a dancer. I started dancing at the age of 2 and it shaped who I am as a person. As most dancers, I studied ballet for the majority of my dancing career but shifted to modern dance and studied choreography during my undergraduate studies. After receiving my BFA in choreography from Temple University, I started my career as a freelance dancer mostly performing in festivals in and around New York City. Like most dedicated athletes, I sustained my fair share of injuries including stress fractures and hip injuries. While dancing, I supported myself as a certified personal trainer which only fueled my passion for movement. I had the chance to shadow a physical therapist who was treating one of my clients and it unlocked an urge to learn more about the human body and how it moves. I attended Long Island University and received my Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2015. Since then, I’ve treated a wide variety of patients from those with neurological conditions to professional dancers and collegiate athletes. On my journey, I realized that my true talent and passion is for treating the moving athlete. Understanding the vocabulary, the physicality of the movement and  the nuance of dancing inspires my passion as a physical therapist.

WHAT WE OFFER

 PHYSICAL THERAPY  EVALUATION

This is the beginning of our journey together.  Like any other clinic, this is where we discuss your concerns, find what we need to work on and come up with goals together. We can treat a medical diagnosis as diagnosed by a physician or a physical therapy diagnosis under Direct Access.

FOLLOW UP VISITS

5th ray mobilization

This is where the work begins. After the evaluation and goals are set, we work using your goals as a framework for a specialized program that focuses on you, not your diagnosis. Most clinics use standard exercises which are great but when your physical therapist works for you without the constraints of an insurance company, we work on what is best for you, not what someone reading a piece of paper thinks. Whether you're a  dancer, specialized athlete, or just you living your best life, we will work together to get you back to your best self.

WELLNESS

Wellness goes beyond just exercise. While the main focus is the exercise, it goes past the idea of functional activities. While achieving your goals in physical therapy is great, in a wellness program, we strictly focus on strength, mobility or a combination of both.  What ever path you're on, your program will be tailored to you and your interests. You get to decide if it is focusing how to get off the floor more efficiently, working on having more energy throughout the day, supporting your dance technique or just feeling more confident in your body;

this is your time.

FAQ

WHAT IS PHYSICAL THERAPY?

Physical Therapy is an allied health specialty that primarily performs rehabilitative services. In addition to rehabilitation, a physical therapist can also provide wellness services which can help you achieve or maintain fitness levels of a variety of activities including the everyday activities of being a human.

CAN I RECEIVE PHYSICAL THERAPY WITHOUT A PRESCRIPTION?

Yes! In the state New York, a physical therapist who has been licensed in the state of New York, and practicing for 3 years or greater can provide physical therapy and treatment for 10 visits or 30 days, which ever occurs first. After, a prescription is required by state law to provided by a physician, nurse practitioner or a podiatrist. The exception is, if you want Medicare to reimburse for treatment, a prescription is needed before starting as required by NY state law.

WHAT DOES OUT OF NETWORK MEAN?

Fluid Motion Physical Therapy is not in-network with any insurance carriers. We can provide a super bill for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. It is important to check with your insurance company first to make sure you have out of network benefits.

HOW IS PHYSICAL THERAPY DIFFERENT THAN WELLNESS?

Physical Therapy is performed by a physical therapist who has received a degree in Physical Therapy. Physical Therapy can treat a medical diagnosis given by a physician, nurse practitioner and/or a podiatrist. Physical therapy also has a hands-on component that can consist of manual treatments only performed by a Physical Therapist.
Wellness is usually exercise focused visits that do not have the hands-on component. Wellness can be provided by a Physical Therapist or a certified personal trainer.

WHERE CAN I BE TREATED?

My treatment space is located inside of American Theatre Dance Workshop in Mineola, NY.(Click here for address) For in-home treatment, I will travel up to 20 minutes from Glen Cove, NY or online anywhere in the state of New York.
